Lia Sophia was born in 1978 in French Guyana. When she was only two years old she came to Brazil. She was raised in Macapá and when she was six years old she started as a solo singer in a church. Her first chords on a guitar emerged at nine influenced by her mother, who in her youth, was a radio singer. Even coming from a family of musicians, where she lived with a variety of musical styles, from gospel to brega, from bolero to zouk and merengue, in addition to the strong influences of carimbó and marabaixo (regional music from the north of Brazil), the musical career of Lia Sophia wasn't a foregone conclusion.
In reality, playing music wasn't seen as a priority to her family or to Lia herself. Playing guitar was only a family thing that was appreciated. Living as a musician was too risky
It was only at seventeen, when Lia Sophia went to the city of Belém to study psychology that she heard Brazilian popular music for the first time, in style of those greats such as João Gilberto and Marisa Monte. It was like love at first sight.
During her college years, she was encouraged by friends to use music to support herself financially. Lia, reluctantly, risked herself and did the only thing she knew she was able to do. Without family support, she played in local pubs, forming a faithful public. She owned a pub for four years, created room for new talents and discovered herself as a composer. Her first composition, "eu só quero você" later became one of the most requested songs and also one of the most played in radio stations.
With her raucous and smooth voice, and her outstanding guitar playing, every performance was bigger than the last. The first invitations to open shows by big names in Brazilian music like Tunai, Vítor Ramil and Chico César arose.
In 2004, she did her first solo show in a traditional theater of Belém. She played her songs to the acclaim of fans.
In August of 2005, she released her first CD, "Livre". With a new proposal virtually unseen in the music scene of Pará state, the first tracks of the twelve-song CD were her own compositions
Among the hits are "eu só quero você" (Lia), frequently played by local radio stations and used in several advertisements, "boca" (Débora Vasconcelos), "velhos Sonhos" (Mapyu and Nilson Chaves) and "Eu" composed by Eliane Moura and Lia Sophia. This first CD had excellent reception from the public and critics of Pará and contributed strongly to making Lia one of the great names in paraense popular music.
With this disc, Lia traveled to several cities of the north of Brazil, received the award of "Revelation Singer" in the "XXI Baile dos Artistas", performed alongside big names in paraense music as Nilson Chaves, Jane Duboc, Fafa de Belem, and opened the shows of artists such as Maria Rita, Zeca Baleiro and Vanessa da Mata.
In 2007, she delighted the public of SESC Vila Mariana and SESC Pinheiros in São Paulo.
In 2008, she worked intensively in the production of her second CD, "Castelo de Luz". With 13 original songs, the work reveals all of her facets as singer, composer, guitar player, arranger and also co-producer alongside Adelbert Carneiro. Castelo de Luz was released in the first semester of 2009 and consolidated the Lia as composer.
At the end of 2008, Lia Sophia started a daring project which she had already been researching for nearly two years: recording classic brega songs. This research resulted in the artist's third CD, entitled "Amor Amor Amor", recorded in studio Zagas Music in Rio de Janeiro, produced by Alexandre Moreira and with prospective release in the second semester of 2009.
The album "Livre" by Lia Sophia was her first partnership with friend and plastic artist Eliane Moura. Having fun, with no big claims, they began to write and sing the poems that emerged from true and invented stories. Thus, were born great successes such as "eu só quero você" and "Rosa Purpura".Recorded in 2004 and released in 2005 in Belem, the album had as its producer Alcyr Meireles, who also was responsible for the arrangements and musical direction.
"Livre", current and experimental, is the beginning of the artist's journey as a songwriter and performer. The album also has the participation of composers like Nilson Chaves and Mapyu in the song "velhos sonhos", one of the most played songs on Cultura Radio Station. "Boca" from Débora Vasconcelos, was a great success and one of the most requested and sung in concerts.
“Livre”, or “Free”, does justice to the name, as Lia strolls freely amongst various styles, from ballads such as Na Mira, by Zé Miguel and Gil Soares, to the artist’s own samba Teu Espelho, thereby showing off her great versatility.

Three years after the release of her first CD "Livre" Lia Sophia introduces her new album "Castelo de Luz". With 13 original songs, Castelo de Luz reveals all her facets as singer, composer, guitar player, arranger and co-producer. Castelo de Luz was released in the first semester of 2009 and consolidated Lia as composer. Lia explained her carefulness in choosing the cd’s songs: "In a universe of thirty songs which I composed for this new CD, it was difficult to determine the songs that I wanted to comprise the CD".
Recorded at Midas Studio in Belém, between April and September 2008, the cd was co-produced and directed by Adelbert Carneiro, musician and producer recognized for his work with great artists of the North of Brazil. The CD also has the talents of the best musicians of the region, like "conductor" Luiz Pardal who arranged the songs "Castelo de Luz", the title track of the disc, and "Minha prece". Pardal and Lia Sophia co-arranged the song "Meu Verso".
The atmosphere of the disc goes through the 60s and 70s, bringing in the arrangements of Big Bands and their guitars and the delays characteristic of the 70s. Following this tendency, in the song "A Flor" it is possible to perceive the sound of a regional style called "Guitarrada", with a groove created by David Amorim. In "Minhas verdades", in early rock'n roll or "ie ie ie" style, the Lundu rhythm is evident. And in the extremely sensitive and refined "Mulher", the influence of brega style is subtly perceived.
The artist’s lyrics reflect scenes of daily life, with simple and romantic stories like in "Mais uma Vez" and "Quero te encontrar", dream images and philosophical questions in "Castelo de Luz", composed in partnership with the composer Sóstenes and "Deixa chover", and show off the versatility and maturity of the artist as a songwriter.
"Castelo de Luz" is about things that Lia Sophia feels, observes and says, and is very well executed with quality and the sensibility of an artist for whom music is a passion for over ten years.
"O novo CD de Lia Sophia é universal ao driblar rios óbvios da música falando de amor sem rimar com calor e tambor. Melodias singelas produzidas com apuro. Castelo de Luz não pretende reinventar a roda, apenas te levar para um passeio gostoso na voz intimista de Lia. E vale a viagem" – Luiz Braga – Fotógrafo Paraense
"The new CD from Lia Sophia is universal, circumventing obvious rivers of music that talk about love without talking about rhyme with heat and drum. Melodies produced in a unique style. Castelo de Luz does not want to reinvent the wheel, just take you for a nice walk in the intimate voice of Lia. And it is worth the trip "- Luiz Braga - Photographer

AMOR AMOR is the third album of the Lia Sophia. In this album, the artist faces a big challenge: rescuing the great classics brega songs of the northern Brazil. By having a childhood surrounded by these songs, Lia says ".. this is a return to the past with a look of now."
With the Artistic Director in the hands, the artist mixed the most modern electronic influences of Brazilian music with the rhythms of his regional experience Northerner.
Work produced, recorded and mixed by Alexandre Moreira (RJ), which brings music producer works with dozens of great artists mpb, and is also a member of the Bossa Cuca Nova, a group that has renewed the Bossa Nova with their electronic arrangements, and so has the critical national and international. The arrangements resulted from the combined talents of Lia Sophia, Flávio Mendes (conductor and arranger) and producer Alex Moreira.
After three years of research on the vast and diverse universe of Brega from the North, the result was this: a reexamination of the great classics brega songs in a way contemporary and bold, both in arrangements and in sound.
The choice of repertoire went through the process of "sing, write and play", which the artist has done, always keeping one foot in the memories of childhood, since his parents were fans of rhythm.
The project began with a show that was meant to honor their parents, in September 2006.
Among the cover versions, stand out "Tchau Tchau Amor" of Ivan Peter and Bella Maria music of great success in the 80s, "Amor Amor "composition of Carlos Magno Xavier (Magno) and Oseias Carlos André Lopes Almeida (Carlos André) and" Ao Pôr do Sol" by Firmo Cardoso and Dino Souza.
